Fractured Hand

Fractured Hand

Brent had a previously fractured the 4th Metacarpal of his left hand. The plate and screw was in situ. When he punched a wall, he re-fractured the same bone at the plate site. It was not possible to remove the plate and so a second plate was put over the plate to stabilize the fracture. In addition K wires were inserted.

A splint was made to protect the hand and pin site for 6 weeks.Treatment included pain and oedema management, mobilisation of the unaffected joints and strengthening following removal of the hardware. Brent has regained full functional use of his hand.
